On this day ten years ago, India and Pakistan, two of the fiercest rivals in cricket, faced off in the T20 World Cup. Fans always anticipate India vs. Pakistan matches, and on March 21, 2014, they saw the two Asian powerhouses engage in yet another legendary rivalry.

At the T20 World Cup, India and Pakistan faced off for the third time.

At the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Bangladesh, the captain of India at the time, MS Dhoni, won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Pakistan suffered an early setback when the wicketkeeper was removed for eight runs after a mix-up between Ahmed Shahzad and Kamran Akmal.

The team’s recovery was aided by Ahmed Shehzad and Pakistani captain Mohammed Hafeez, who briefly attempted to form a partnership. After Ravindra Jadeja took the captain’s wicket, Hafeez was the first to go.

After a fantastic ball from Amit Mishra, MS Dhoni dislodged the bails and dismissed Shehzad to assist the side in taking their second wicket.

Shoaib Malik and Umar Akmal were the ones who later assisted Pakistan in staging a resurgence. After taking Malik’s wicket for 18, Amit Mishra once again saved the day for India, as Pakistan was reduced to 97/4 in only 15.2 overs.

For the greatest period of time, the Men in Blue controlled the game as their bitter enemies struggled to score runs in Mirpur due to a batting collapse.

The MS Dhoni-led team faced serious danger from Shahid Afridi, but Bhuvaneshwar Kumar got rid of him for eight runs.

Sohaib Maqsood of Pakistan scored a solid 21 off 11 balls to lead his side to a reasonable goal of 130/7 in 20 overs.

Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan put up a 54-run partnership while chasing a target of 131. Umar Gul, a Pakistani bowler, ended the collaboration by taking Dhawan’s wicket for thirty. Next to go was Rohit, who had amassed 24 runs.

In the end, Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina led India to victory. Raina was not out on 35 off 28 deliveries, while Kohli struck an undefeated 36 off 32 balls.

The team captained by MS Dhoni scored the winning runs in the nine remaining deliveries. With remarkable scores of 2/22, Amit Mishra was declared Player of the Match as India triumphed by a commanding seven wickets.

Despite having advanced to the 2014 T20 World Cup final, India was defeated by Sri Lanka by six wickets in the championship match.
