Bagan wins a seven-goal thriller over Blasters

On Wednesday, Kerala Blasters were pushed to the breaking point. Despite their best efforts, the Yellow Army was unable to defeat the Mohun Bagan Super Giants in a home Indian Super League game. The Mariners moved up to 39 points, equal with the top-seeded Mumbai City FC, and this was just the Blasters’ second home defeat (3-4) in their previous ten games.

The team led by Antonio Lopez Habas took the lead in the fourth minute thanks to a strike from Albanian forward Armando Sadiku. With six goals in a span of around forty minutes, the second half was intense. The groundwork was laid by Rahul KP and Vibin Mohanan of Kerala Blasters FC, who together broke down the Mohun defense. Finally, Vibin scored a goal with an equally easy assist from Rahul.

After Sadiku gave the Mariners a 1-0 lead in the 60th minute, Dimitrios Diamantakos doubled his team’s score in the 63rd. The tension didn’t abate until the second half’s extra time, when Deepak Tangri scored the third goal. Jason Cummings, a striker, scored in the 97th. Two minutes later, Diamantakos equalized, but it was too little, too late, for the home team.
