The attacking unit of the capital club managed six shots in the first half. Mbappe gave PSG the lead in the 15th minute, giving them breathing space on Tuesday night.

Real Sociedad only managed two shots in the opening half-hour, even though they had the support of the home fans. When PSG scored their second goal of the game in the second half, things were more difficult for the Spanish squad.

After doubling the lead in the 56th minute to make it 2-0, Mbappe once again tormented the Real Sociedad defense.

The last 45 minutes saw a noticeable improvement in Real Sociedad’s attacking output as they managed to take a total of 12 shots and were rewarded with a late goal from Mikel Merino.

Even though the Italian goalkeeper let one to go past him in the 89th minute, Gianluigi Donnarumma put on an amazing display throughout the course of the 90 minutes, making six saves to preserve a clean sheet.

“We’re overjoyed. Winning was as important as qualifying, that was our goal. We were able to score early because we had a defined gameplan. We were under a little bit of pressure towards the finish, but not too much,” Mbappe said after the victory.

“Our managers will always try to find a solution, but it’s the players that played well,” said Luis Enrique, the coach of PSG. They were all really good players. They played both strong defense and excellent offense. Our two-legged performance was encouraging.

In the meanwhile, FC Bayern secured a spot in the Champions League quarterfinals on Tuesday night by defeating Lazio 3-0.

The first-leg deficit was erased by Harry Kane and Thomas Müller in the first half, and the England striker completed his brace in the second half to secure a 3-1 aggregate win.

After a lackluster performance in their 1-0 loss in Rome, Bayern was under pressure going into the second leg. However, an early opportunity for the resurrected Leroy Sane set the tone for a commanding first-half performance by the home team.

After a sustained period of Bayern pressure, Ciro Immobile missed a clear opportunity to increase the visitors’ aggregate lead. Lazio was disappointed by the error, as Kane pounced to nod in his 50th European goal and bring his team level with his fifth of the season.

The six-time winners took the lead in the game for the first time when Muller connected with Matthijs de Ligt’s superb shot from close range, dealing a crushing blow to Lazio.

This was a night when his goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, had very little to do. Kane capitalized further when Ivan Provedel could only push Sane’s whipping cross into his path. Kane produced a characteristically controlled finish.
